Lake Superior Zoo proud of accreditation renewal

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums announced that the Lake Superior Zoo was granted accreditation again. The renewal is good for five years.

The Lake Superior Zoo was first accredited in 1985 and has now been continuously accredited for the past 11 years.

“We are thrilled to receive this prestigious accreditation, and I am so proud of the Lake Superior Zoo team for all of their commitment and hard work that got us here today,” said Haley Hedstrom, CEO of the Lake Superior Zoo.

She went on to say, “This accomplishment speaks to our dedication to animal welfare and well-being, safety, vet care, and being a place where all people can experience close-up connections with animals and know they are being cared for with the highest standards of modern zoological practices.”

Fewer than 10% of the approximately 2,800 animal exhibitors licensed by the United States Department of Agriculture are AZA accredited. The AZA logo is the easiest, most reliable way for people to choose zoos and aquariums that meet rigorous accreditation standards.
