Hunter rescued Saturday in Portage Township

Saturday at around 5:15pm, first responders received reports of a man who had been hunting in Portage Township, just south of Crane Lake, who was stuck waist deep in water and unable to free himself.

Law enforcement was able to locate the male and successfully recue him using the Crane Lake Fire Department’s ARGO.

They say the male attempted to walk across a partially frozen swampy area prior to falling in and getting stuck.

During the rescue the hunter showed signs of hypothermia and was transferred to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities want to send a reminder as the weather begins to cool to always be cautious then it comes to ice thickness this winter.
