MnDOT is looking to make some changes around the I-35. They are looking to replace the following bridges: northbound and southbound I-35 bridges over the Grindstone River located 0.3 miles north of the junction of MN 48, and northbound and southbound I-35 bridges over the BNSF railroad located 1.2 miles north of the junction of MN 48. Also, repair the bridge over I-35 at MN 48. Lastly, concrete overlay on I-35 from 1.0 mile south of MN 48 to 2.2 miles north of MN 48. These changes are coming due to poor infrastructure.

“It is because of aging infrastructure. The bridges are getting to the point where they need to be replaced or repaired and then the pavement, if anybody’s driven through there, they know it’s in poor shape,” says Pippi Mayfield Public Engagement & Communications Director for MnDOT.

The project starts at Hinckley, where Highway 48 goes across, and then it’ll extend about three miles north of there.

“Some ramps will be closed at some times for these bridges. And then on Thursday, we’re holding a public meeting for mostly for business owners to let them know how this is going to impact their businesses,” continues Mayfield.

The project is hoping to be completed by 2025. For those who could not attend the meeting tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 16th a virtual public meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. In addition, Thursday, Nov. 17th a business meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in the Hinckley Community Center, 102 Dunn Ave. N.
