The Gary New Duluth Rec Center is helping students celebrate “I Love to Read” month. Center organizers say this is one of their favorite events.

In the next two days they welcome over 250 students their space. They get to listen to guest readers like the police chief. Each student gets two free, brand new books.

There are man different book genres, and this choice helps empower students to read.

Fran Morris says they get a lot of positive feedback from the event, “There’s a lot of excitement prior and apparently the day they go back with their books, there’s a lot of happiness.”

Students can take as many used books from their collections as they’d like.

The rec center is always looking for book donations to sustain their programing.
