Fraternal Order of Police’s annual fundraiser for law enforcement

On April 7th, the Fraternal Order of Police's Lake Superior Lodge #9 held their annual fundraiser for local law enforcement at the AAD Shrine Event Center.

Friends, family and supports of local law enforcement showed their support at the AAD Shrine Event Center. The Fraternal Order of Police’s Lake Superior Lodge #9 held their annual spring fundraiser to help first responders.

Mike Brostrom is the Sergeant-At-Arms of The Fraternal Order of Police’s Lake Superior Lodge #9. He said this event supports officers, deputies, and other public servant members and their families.

“We’ve been having an active fundraiser since about 2008. Every year we’ve grown and gotten a little bit bigger. It’s just amazing to see the community support that we have,” Brostrom said. “Anything that we can do to support local law enforcement and the first responders and their families is a good day for us. That’s what we’re hoping for and it’s been a great event.”

Brostrom also said they see 200-300 people show up at their annual spring fundraiser. He attributes this to people’s admiration to police officers and other law enforcement.

“People are very happy that we’re here and that we have a fundraiser. The money actually stays right here in the Northland,” Brostrom sadid. “We’re not sending money, donations across the country. All the money that we raise saves locally right here to support Northland.”

The proceeds helps families and police officers financially when they’re struggling. Brayden Simmons’s father has been on the police department for over a decade. He said fundraisers like this one helps police officers and their families feel appreciated.

“It means a lot to me because it shows the support for law enforcement. Especially after 2020, the support went down a lot for law enforcement,” Simmons said. “I’ve seen it continually go down from the media and other community members. But events like this really show that there is a lot of support for law enforcement.”
