Florida man killed in Solway Township crash

The Minnesota State Patrol says a Florida man was killed in a three-car crash in Solway Township.

It happened around 11 a.m. Wednesday. The 87-year-old man was driving a Cadillac east on Hwy 194. A 24-year-old Hermantown man couldn’t stop in time to avoid hitting other cars that were stopped, waiting to turn onto Canosia Road.

The Hermantown man in a Subaru reportedly clipped the left rear side of a Toyota RAV4 that was waiting to turn onto Canosia. Then it flipped onto its roof in the eastbound lanes of Hwy 194, hitting the Florida man’s Cadillac on the top and on the front driver’s side.

According to the State Patrol, the Cadillac ended up in the south ditch of 194.

The 24-year-old driver of the Subaru was treated at St. Luke’s for injuries that are not life-threatening. The driver of the RAV4 was not hurt. The 87-year-old man from Madeira Beach, Florida, was killed.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mayo Ambulance assisted.
