Dozens of community members gathered to get a first look at the Lincoln Park Resource Community Garden. Organizers say that it will help fill the gap for people that struggle with accessing fresh food, as the neighborhood is considered a food desert.

Jhonrae Reeves, the program manger, explains the set up, “We have two little libraries and the plan is to put food in there so people can walk and grab any food items. Or if they want to donate they can put it in our libraries for the community.”

The community garden was a recipient of “A Love Your Block Grant” through the city of the Duluth. In total, more than $18,000 dollars went into the community through these mini grants. All the projects are resident driven and awarded to encourage innovation and experimentation and to reduce blight.

This event had a costume contest, barbecue, and more.
