On Sunday April 30th Duluth’s working class West End neighborhood and craft district (Lincoln Park) hosted the region’s third annual May Day Worker Solidarity Rally at the Harrison Community Center.

This year’s event was themed “Organizing for Power: Rank and File Democracy,”

The Minnesota President of American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) Bernie Burnham at the event spoke about recent organizing initiatives by the state’s leading labor coalition.

She also said “It is historically about working people, trying to get things better for them and around labor and unions, we work to fight so that workers can be treated respectfully. As we celebrate May Day it’s not just the United States it’s an international celebration that people celebrate all around the world for working people”

The May Day rally is geared to bring people together from across the region’s labor spectrum to share stories of organizing successes and how they have translated into greater shared economic and social power.
