Every Tuesday during the Summer- Duluth Police Officers and kids in the community go fishing, as part of the department’s Get Hooked on Fishing Program.

Lt. Ken Zwak of the Duluth Police Department says, “It’s not us as uniforms. It’s us as Ken… us as Jim… us as Mike. Whoever it is. (The kids) see us out on the street with our uniforms on, and they’re the first ones to come up and give us a hug.”

It aims to teach kids about fishing and helps officers build relationships with the community.

To kick of the season, fifth graders from Stowe Elementary got to put their lines in at the Mon Du Lac Marina. The resort also presented the program with a check today.

Community sponsors have allowed the program to grow throughout the years. The recently were able to build a pontoon, giving kids an opportunity to get our on the lake. Zwak says, “We’re giving them the total experience. “
