Duluth Fire Department responds to apartment fire at Chester Terrace
The Duluth Fire Department quickly responded to an automatic fire alarm Sunday morning to find an apartment fire. The apartment complex is called Chester Terrace and is located at 1232 E 1st S in Duluth.
Firefighters say upon arriving this morning they saw light smoke coming from the front and East side of the Second Floor. Once inside, crews found a a fire in one of the apartment’s kitchens. Officials say fire damage was limited but smoke and water damages is shared by a number of apartments in that region of the complex.
Crews say that no humans were injured in the apartment fire, but two cats were found dead due to smoke inhalation. The pets were found on the second level of the apartment where a large amount of smoke moved to.
A statement from fire officials says that reports of explosions could be heard, after arrival they found out these were aerosol cans found in the kitchen.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office.
Crews from Downtown, Lakeside, Woodland, UMD, Lincoln Park, Spirit Valley and Miller Hill were called to the scene along with the Duluth Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service.
