The Duluth Area Family YMCA has introduced a Paid Parental Leave policy for its employees.

The Y understands the need to support employees as they balance career, childbirth, and family life.

An employee will be granted up to six consecutive weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth of the employee’s child, the placement of a child with the employee for adoption, and the placement of a child with the employee for non-temporary foster care.

Sara Cole, President and CEO, shared, “Being an employer of choice is always on our minds. And paid leave supports equity. It supports parents of all genders. And it supports babies and young children.”

She told us it was not difficult to implement, and that she hopes other companies start doing the same.
