Construction to begin Monday on Highway 61 Pigeon River bridge

Construction will begin on the Highway 61 Pigeon River bridge at the US-Canadian border on Monday, April 10. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), traffic on the bridge will be reduced to a single lane that will be controlled by temporary traffic signals. MnDOT says the traffic control will be in place until October.

Road crews will be replacing bridge bearings, the bridge deck and the lighting system. MnDOT says crews will also work on storm sewer replacement, abutment work and new approach panels. The estimated cost of this project is $3.5 million.

Drivers should be prepared for intermittent full closures throughout the project, although MnDOT says the closures will last up to 15 minutes at a time.
