The Cold Weather Rule is now in effect, running October 1st through April 30th.
The state law protects those who cannot afford heat through experts helping those struggling to create a payment plan that will work for your household. The program however, is not an automatic enrollment.
You must call 800-228-4966 to enroll. Director of Customer Experience Operations for Minnesota Power, Tina Koecher says that the process is simple and they will walk you through it.
Koecher adds that they will make a plan for you, but it’s crucial you don’t break it. Minnesota Power can still turn off your power, but Koecher says that there would be a fair amount of warnings before doing so.
She also says that you can re-negotiate your plan as circumstances change.
