Cohasset couple receive free tree removal after a severe storm

A Cohasset couple receive free tree removal after a severe storm caused three dead trees to fall on their roof, causing a hole.

Throughout the spring season there’s no shortage of severe storms, but many residents worry about damage to their homes. One Cohasset couple underwent an agonizing recovery after this week’s storm, because several trees fell on their home.

Linda Johnson-Walker, said she and her husband were at home during the storm when the trees fell. Thankfully no one was injured during the storm. Although the fallen trees left a hole in the roof. Johnson-Walker contacted their insurance to see if they could get the trees removed, but unfortunately their claim was rejected.

They started looking for tree removal companies to quickly fix the problem before the house had more damages. When Johnson-Walker said their insurance wouldn’t cover the costs to remove the trees, Joe Nelson, the owner of Wilderness Land Cleaning, said they would take care of it for free.

“The fellow who came to our house said, ‘We have decided to mitigate this. We don’t like to see people become victims of insurance companies. We will do this for free.’ I said, ‘For free? Wow, that’s amazing.’ They did an incredible job,” Johnson-Walker said. “I wouldn’t sign a contract yet, until I knew what it was going to cost. He said, ‘Don’t worry about that. We’ll absorb it.’ ‘Okay. Well, what does that mean to absorb it?’ ‘Well, that means it’s not coming out of your pocket.’

Nelson said when it came to helping this Cohasset couple, he wanted to make their situation a priority. He wanted to lend a hand to fix this immediate problem, because he said insurance shouldn’t take several days to remove dangerous debris on a roof.

“A lot of these homeowners don’t realize how it’s a battle to get paid by these insurance companies. The biggest thing is, is insurance companies need to be honest with their insured,” Nelson said. “I’m going in there and doing a good deed for a homeowner, which I feel good that we did.”
