Every year volunteers from the community spend the day picking up trash at one of our local creeks in the Duluth area assisting the hard workers of the parks department.

The event known as “Clean Yer Creek” draws out many volunteers one day each year to remove trash from Keene, Miller and Chester creeks.

We spoke to the event organizer Lucas Mistelske on why this is important.

“So Clean Yer Creek has been around for a while. This is our 15th year, and over the course of 15 years, it’s been a public private relationship. Obviously we work with city of Duluth, Chester creek, but we’ve also worked with over 50 businesses across the community. We’ve supported over 1600 volunteers through the 15 years. I think the most amazing part is that we’ve pulled over 20 tons of trash from Keene Creek. Miller creek and Chester creek over the course of the years.”

Lucas also mentioned that the clean-up prevents garbage from making its way into the Duluth watershed which could eventually flowing into lake superior.
