A major step forward in helping the unsheltered.

AEOA and other partners celebrated the new Home on the Range shelter in Hibbing.

It’s at the former Hillcrest memory care facility on 3rd Avenue.

28 rooms are now open. And in the coming months, there will be up to 28 more.

“This is desperately needed,” shared Angie Neal, Housing Resources Development Director for AEOA. “It’s going to be a place where people feel safe, with staff 24/7. And they can get supportive services for things like food, job applications, and more.”

It’s now the second largest homeless shelter north of Minneapolis.

For the last three years, AEOA has operated 14 units at the Roadway Inn in Hibbing as a temporary shelter. They also run Bill’s House in Virginia, but routinely have to turn away people.

The agency had the opportunity to look at a permanent solution thanks to $1.6 million dollars in American Rescue Plan Funding.
