Celebrating a spring commencement for Lake Superior College

Two sisters from Moose Lake celebrated graduation together at LSC's spring commencement at the DECC.

Over 750 students graduated from Lake Superior College on Monday during a ceremony at the DECC.

Graduates hail from places as far away as Vietnam and Kenya, and range in ages from 16 to 65.

They received certificates, diplomas, or associate degree from among almost 70 program areas.

Two sisters from Moose Lake enjoyed an extra special moment. Grace Wipson is a 2024 LSC grad, and her sister Sydney is a 2020 one.

But Sydney didn’t get to walk, due to the pandemic.

Her sister asked LSC if she could join the ceremony, and the school said yes. Plus, both girls were home schooled, so they had never walked in any graduation before Monday.

Grace told us, “I love giving gifts, and I thought this would be the best gift I could give her.”

It was a surprise, and Sydney was emotional when she found out about it. “I started crying when I read the emails, because it was something I never thought I’d get,” she told us.

Sydney runs her own pottery business now, and credits the teachers at LSC for helping her get to this point. Grace is heading to Bemidji State to get a communications degree.

Congrats to all the graduates!
