Bike Ride of a Lifetime

He is 72 years old and is a retired molecular cell biologist that is now biking across the USA. Sounds like the beginning to a great movie, right? No, this is real life, Gary Petersen is trekking across the USA to complete a mission. He is from Omaha Nebraska and is solo biking across the country to raise money for a very special cause.

“The purpose of me going is to make it a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Children hospital. St. Jude helped me set up a website where people can go to directly donate to St. Jude. That’s why I’m doing it,” says Gary.

The road to get there is a far one, Gary began on the Canadian border and his mission will be complete once he arrives in Louisiana. A big task, which he admits to.

“Yes it’s quite an undertaking. It’s definitely a lot on my body. But it’s worth it, St. Jude’s is a place my wife and I both decided we wanted to donate too,” says Gary.
