Big win for the Bluejackets as they advance to the 7A Championship game

The Hibbing/Chisholm Bluejackets will head to the Section 7A Championship game on Wednesday with their 4-2 win over Cloquet-Esko-Carlton. It was game two of the Boys’ Section 7A Semifinal games at Amsoil Arena with No. 2 Cloquet-Esko-Carlton facing off against No. 3 Hibbing/Chisholm Bluejackets.

The Bluejackets got on the scoreboard early in the game with a shot from Sophomore Ethan Sundvall getting past C-E-C goaltender Jamis Halverson. Kelin Elsner and Tate Swanson got the assist on the goal. Hibbing/Chisholm out shot the Lumberjacks in the first period, as the Lumberjacks wasn’t able to make it to the net for the first 10 minutes of the game.

Hibbing/Chisholm would score again in the second period to put the Bluejackets up 2-0. That goal came from Sophomore Benny Galli on an assist from Isaiah Hildenbrand. C-E-C continued to fight back and with under a minute left in the period, Senior Joseph Antonutti, assisted by Bobby Thornton and Cooper Ellena closed the gap to 2-1.

Heading into the third period, Cloquet’s Thornton slips the puck by the Hibbing/Chisholm’s goalie Rex Walli to tie the game at 2-2. Brody Dushkin gets the assist. Both teams picked up the pace in this physical game, when Junior Jace Kampsula scored for the Bluejackets putting them back in the lead. Benny Galli would get an open net goal with :23 seconds remaining in the game.

The Bluejackets will meet the Hermantown Hawks on Wednesday, February 28 on WDIO.

In the Quarterfinals on February 20, Cloquet-Esko-Carlton shut out Ely 12-0. Hibbing/Chisholm held off No. 6 Greenway 4-1.
