Andover to meet Grand Rapids in the 7AA Championship game

The Andover Huskies will advance to the 7AA Championship game on Thursday. In game two of our Super Saturday the No. 2 seeded Huskies and the No. 3 seed Duluth East Grayhounds hit the ice at Amsoil Arena. This is a rematch of the 2023 Section 7AA title game, where Andover won 7-2 to advance to state.

Andover got on the board on Saturday with a goal from Sophomore Keaton Coe with 8:53 remaining in the first period. Coe scored on an assist from Landon Stringfellow and Chase Nadeau. After an energenic first period, the score is 0-1.

In the second period, Andover scored on the power play just 2 minutes into the period. Senior Ben Doll scored assisted by Brooks Cogswell and Coe. Duluth East’s goaltender, Kole Kronstadt got a work-out as Duluth East killed off a 5 minute major power play. Shots on goal at the end of two, Duluth East 20, Andover 31.

In the third period, Doll scored his second goal of the game with an assist from Nadeau and Stringfellow.

Duluth East continued to fight back, with a goal from Senior Noah Teng. He was assisted by Thomas Gunderson and Luke Anderson at 13:12. Andover’s Doll answered with a unassisted goal to make it 1-4.

Senior Kronstedt was in goal for Duluth East, while Junior Cal Conway was across the ice as goalie for Andover.

Duluth East defeated No. 6 Duluth Denfeld 5-1 in their first section tournament meeting, with Denfeld opting up from Section 7A after last season.
