One person dies in house fire in Village of Superior

One person has died in a structure fire in the Village of Superior. According to the Superior Fire Department, a call came in regarding a structure fire at 6528 John Avenue at 4:23 a.m. Friday morning.

When crews arrived they found a single-story home with an attached garage that was on fire. Firefighters attacked the flames and were able to get into the home where they located an individual.

Despite lifesaving efforts of the first responders, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the victim has not yet been released. There were no other injuries.

Fire officials say the home sustained significant smoke and fire damage. Another home next door also had fire damage. Fire crews remained on scene until about 8:00 a.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation assisted Superior Fire Department investigators at the fire scene. All three on-duty engine companies worked the fire, and off-duty fire crews helped service emergency calls.

Mayo Ambulance, Superior Water, Light, and Power also assisted the Superior Fire Department.
