A man is in custody, money and drugs seized in Duluth

A 43-year-old man is in custody following a search warrant at a residence on the 4700 block of Matterhorn Drive. According to a report from the Duluth Police Department, the Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force arrived at the home at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Monday, February 19. Authorities say Diaunte Shields was taken into custody without incident.

The report says Shields was known to have active Felony Warrants for Parole Violation, Possession with Intent to Deliver Fentanyl, and five counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

In the search, officers found $33,555 in cash, numerous fake IDs and additional documents in Shields’ possession. Investigators also located and seized a kilogram of compressed fentanyl, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, a loaded pistol, and evidence of drug sales from the residence.

Authorities also intercepted a package in the mail a short time later. The item was heavily wrapped, vacuum sealed and encased in spray foam, so investigators called in K-9 Maverick to detect the contents, which contained a kilogram of cocaine.

The Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force was assisted by St. Louis County investigators, and Duluth Police Major Crimes Investigators.
