The Saint Louis County Historical Society and its veteran memorial hall held a 5K walk-run in honor of Command Sergeant Major John S Werner.

Werner was the Mayor of the City of Rice Lake, a Boy Scout troop master, a mechanic, and a veteran of over 40 years. Werner passed away March 25 of 2023.

 “So my father started it 11 years ago,” said Julie Blazevic, Werner’s daughter. “And now after my father’s death last year, they have now started it in his honor. He felt this was a great way to get people out in the spring and to raise money for a great cause.”

Proceeds went to benefit the programs of the Saint Louis County Historical Society’s Veterans Memorial Hall.
