Victims name released in Sawyer Co. hit and run

Update: The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the victim in the August 19th hit and run incident on Snowmobile Trail #31 near Sissabagama Road in Sand Lake. Kaylie B. Schwingle, 18 of Chippewa Falls, Wisc. died from her injuries.

The name of the 16 year old suspect is not being released at this time.

Original Story: On Saturday morning at 6:53 am, Sawyer County Deputies assisted by the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin DNR, Sawyer County EMS, and the Stone Lake and LCO Fire Departments responded to the report of a person being struck by a vehicle. The incident took place at Snowmobile Trail number 31 north of Sissabagama Rd in the town of Sand Lake.

Upon arrival, a female victim, 18, was located and transported by ambulance for medical attention. According to the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office, the victim ultimately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased while in transport to a medical facility.

Deputies investigated the scene and received information from several individuals who remained at the location. The incident occurred at the site of an underage alcohol party.

A press release from Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office stated that the Deputies learned that a 16-year-old juvenile suspect struck the victim, running her over. The suspect was driving a 2011 Ford F-350 and fled the area. The suspect was later taken into custody by Washburn County Sheriff’s Deputies.

The investigation into the incident continues by the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Sawyer County Medical Examiner’s Office.
