No injuries from Saturday morning Duluth basement fire

At approximately 3:47 am on Saturday, the Duluth Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire in the 100 block of E Locust St. The caller said they could see flames coming from the basement.

Upon arrival, crews found a large amount of fire coming from the front basement window. The homeowner stated to police that he was the only person in the house and that he and his pet cat were outside.

The fire was quickly knocked down. A search of the residence was made, and the house was checked for fire extension. The fire was contained to the basement level.

There were no injuries. Damage estimates to the building and contents are about $80,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Inquiries can be directed to the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office.

Fire companies from Miller Hill, Downtown, and UMD fire stations responded to the call. Duluth Police and Minnesota State Patrol were also on scene to assist.
