Last week a Northland coach received the surprise of a lifetime.Tamara Moore, the head coach of Mesabi Range men’s basketball team, was called by Good Morning America to join a panel celebrating the 50th anniversary of Title IX. Little did she know, it would be a celebration of her work.

"It was actually a bigger piece than I thought it was going to be. I was tricked, they told me it was a panel of five to six people. I didn’t know my mom was going to be on, I didn’t know my player Mark Campbell was going to be on. I didn’t know a lot of those elements were going to happen, but to know I got to highlight not only myself, but also Mesabi Range college. Along with players out there that are looking to possibly do the same thing I did was great," said Moore.

In 2020 Moore took over the Norsemen, becoming the first black head coach of a men’s collegiate program. A former WNBA and Minnesota Lynx player, Moore also gives back to local kids serving as a girls AAU basketball coach.

Her returning sophomores and nine incoming freshmen are set to get the season started with camp beginning August 15th at Mesabi Range. Preseason tips off September 1st.
