- Sunday, October 6 – Subaru Loves Pets at Miller Hill Subaru, 4710 Miller Trunk Highway. It’s Cat-urday on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Dog Day on Sunday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Animals from four regional shelters will be available for adoption. There will be a free microchip clinic with a donation from Animal Allies wishlist both days from 10 a.m. – noon. Discounted adoption fees and animal themed vendors both days.
- Sunday, October 6 – St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1710 E. Superior St. in Duluth is pleased to invite everyone to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. A Blessing of the Animals will take place at 10:00 a.m. Bring your pet (leashed or in crate) to sit in church with you at the 10:00 a.m. service. Photos of pets, and stuffed animals, are also welcome. Each pet will receive a special blessing. Treats for people and their pets will be available at coffee hour, following the service. For those of you with allergies, please be aware that there will be cats and dogs in church on October 6.
- Monday, October 7 – The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Indigenous Alumni Speakers Series will continue with Moira Villiard at 3 p.m. in the William “Pope” Wright Student Center. This event, available both in person and via Zoom, is free and open to the community. Villiard grew up on the Fond du Lac Reservation in Cloquet, and is a Fond du Lac direct descendent of mixed settler and Indigenous heritage. Highlighting the stories of Indigenous alumni of UW-Superior and honoring their accomplishments and perspectives, the Indigenous Alumni Speakers Series will continue November 18 with Patricia Northrup; and December 3 with Jason Schlender. - Monday, October 7 – LSBE Distinguished Speaker event features one of the top “25 Most Powerful Women in Finance.” Tracey Brophy Warson, former chair of Citi Private Bank, is an alumna of UMD and the Labovitz School of Business and Economics, and an advisor to startups in clean energy, food sustainability and fintech. The event begins at 4:00 p.m. at the UMD Weber Music Hallwith reception and refreshments immediately following. - Thursday, October 10 – The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will host many of the best high school jazz musicians from throughout the region for the Tri-State Jazz Festival at UW-Superior. The day will conclude with a public concert at 7 p.m. in Thorpe Langley Auditorium. The UW-Superior Jazz Band will open the performance followed by Tri-State Jazz Festival students. - Saturday, October 12 – Everyone Can Bird, Fall Event Scheduled at 9:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. at Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory, 3980 E. Skyline Parkway in Duluth. October is when the largest of the raptors – like bald and golden eagles, red-tailed hawks and American goshawks – migrate through Hawk Ridge. People of all ages, disabilities and abilities and bird observation experience are welcome. American Sign Language interpretation is provided. Binoculars will be available for use, along with a spotting scope, a wheelchair mount for binoculars and portable seating. A track chair – an all-terrain, electric-powered chair that can be used on hiking trails – will be available courtesy of Duluth Parks and Recreation. Registration is encouraged but not required. Free bus transportation is provided at 9:10 a.m. from the Superior Public Library (1530 Tower Avenue) and at 9:15 a.m. from Lakeview Covenant Church (1001 Jean Duluth Road, Duluth) to Hawk Ridge. - Saturday, October 12 – Shop, Swap & Snack at the South St. Louis County Fairgrounds in Proctor. There will be 14 food trucks and vendors plus vendors, crafters, and a tack swap. It goes from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Entry is free.

- Sunday, October 13 – Poetry Reading at Drummond Public Library and Historical Museum, 14990 Superior Street in Drummond at 2 p.m.. The public is invited to attend, and will be invited to share one or two short poems about any theme. Then regional poets published in the 2025 Wisconsin Poets (Desk) Calendar will read their works. The new calendar has the theme of “shine.” Refreshments will be served following the readings. Calendars, poetry books, and poetry note cards will be available for purchase. This event is sponsored by Drummond Public Library and Cable Hayward Area Arts Council (CHARAC).
- Monday, October 14 – The University of Wisconsin-Superior will hold a celebration for Indigenous Peoples’ Day beginning at 5 p.m. at the Maawanji’idiwin – “The Place Where We Come Together” Medicine Wheel and Community Gathering Area located in the courtyard near the Yellowjacket Union, 1605 Catlin Ave. This family-friendly event is free and open to the community. - Monday, October 14 – Senior Diners Club opening day Grandma’s Saloon & Grill (Miller Hill location.) The Diners Club will be Monday through Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. weekly. Seniors should call AEOA at 218-735-6899 to register as a Senior Diner before they visit the restaurant.
- Monday, October 14 – The University of Wisconsin-Superior will host renowned ghost hunter and medium Chris Fleming at 7 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room, 1605 Catlin Ave. The event is free and open to the community. This event is hosted by the Yellowjacket Activities Crew. The evening will feature a chilling opportunity to explore the realm beyond with an expert who has confronted the supernatural head-on for over 50 years. An expert in hauntings and the supernatural, Fleming will share tales of ghostly encounters on a night where real life meets the paranormal. - Thursday, October 17 – Museums After Dark: Flashlight Tours at Fairlawn Mansion, 906 E 2nd St. in Superior from 6:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m. (last tour departs at 9:30) Tour a darkened Fairlawn Mansion with flashlights and learn all about the ghosts of Fairlawn, along with some bizarre Victorian Traditions. - Thursday, October 17 – One Night Only! Lizz Winstead, comedian and Twin Cities native is celebrating her 41st year in comedy with her takedown of the year’s biggest news stories in Duluth. - Thursday, October 17 – The University of Wisconsin-Superior will host its annual Fall Career and Internship Fair from noon to 3:30 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room, , 1605 Catlin Ave. The event is free and open to the community. 75 top employers and organizations from around the Twin Ports region and beyond will attend. Employers will meet and network with attendees while recruiting for current and future internship and job opportunities. Students and alumni from UW-Superior, The College of St. Scholastica, University of Minnesota Duluth, Lake Superior College, Northwood Technical College and Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College are encouraged to attend. - Saturday, October 19 – Superior Fire Department Open House at Fire Department Headquarters, 3326 Tower Avenue from 1 – 3:00 p.m. Tour the fire station, meet your firefighters and get an up close look at the trucks and other rescue equipment. There will be refreshments and door prizes.

- Thursday, October 24 – Icebox Radio Theater is getting into the spooky spirit with a live radio show from the stage of the Salty Jester, 321 Third Street in International Falls at 7pm. Aptly named ‘Tales to Tremble By’ this stage show and broadcast from the Northern Minnesota troupe will feature a world premiere as well as a recreation of a classic Old Time Radio Show along with a sack full of Halloween comedy. And as is tradition at the Salty Jester, costumes are encouraged for everyone. Happy hour at 6pm, showtime at 7pm. Admission is $15. For those unable to make it to the Salty Jester in person, the show will be broadcast on the IBRT’s streaming radio station, accessible at http://www.iceboxradio.org/stream or on most major streaming apps. - Friday, October 25 – Classic silent film showing at Sacred Heart Music Center at 7:00 p.m. with organist Aaron David Miller providing live accompaniment. All are welcome at Sacred Heart, with or without costumes and candy, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1925 Lon Chaney silent film, The Phantom of the Opera. Adult tickets are $20 with Eventbrite.com and at the door, and all students pay $5 at the door. The drama starts at 7:00pm at the corner of 2nd Avenue W., and West 4th Street. Come join the Friends of the Felgemaker for this classic movie with live music from our pipe organ and one suspenseful tale.
- Saturday, October 26 – 2nd Amendment BINGO fundraising event for Disabled Veterans hosted at the Cohasset Community Center, 305 NW 1st Avenue in Cohasset. Doors open at 11 a.m., Bingo starts at 1 p.m. First comes, first serve. Cash only. 10 Bingo Games for $100 with 3 chances to win per game. Additional games are $10 each. Five raffles. - Saturday, October 26 – Come One and All to the Fall “Flannel” Fest at the Historic Kaleva Hall 125 3rd St N in Virginia. The Lindula Brothers will perform Folk, Bluegrass, and Finnish music from 6pm to 8pm. Tickets $7, under 10 years – free. Box meals (sloppy Joes, chips, water and treat) available at 5pm for $5.
