Young runners in the Duluth area got some of their energy out on the track today at the Saturday Morning at the Races event hosted by the Young Athletes Foundation and Grandma’s Marathon.

Runners of all ages came together to race at UMD which kept them warm from the cold.

Executive Director of Grandma’s Marathon Shane Bauer says, "You know you can’t really go out and get a lot of exercise when it’s five below zero so this gives kids an opportunity indoors to go for a run."

Shane says that the vents usually see 300-400 runners, although this year was lower due to COVID-19. The next race takes place February 5th at the University of Wisconsin Superior.

Some of the kids there were inspired by their parents who have ran in the marathon before. Bauer says, "We have a lot of avid runners from Grandma’s marathon, participants who get their kids started here at the Saturday Morning at the Races in the winter.”
