Yellowjackets, Lumberjacks named UMAC Players of the Week

Four Northland athletes are making their marks in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) earning UMAC Athlete of the Week honors.

University of Wisconsin-Superior’s (UWS) Michael Butterfield earned Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, while fellow Yellowjackets Gage Stankiewicz and Kasha Hughlett earned the indoor field honors.

In The Opener at the College of St. Scholastica (CSS) Saturday Butterfield, a freshman, won the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:49.67. Hughlett placed second in shot put with a mark of 14.09 meters, and Esko native Stankiewicz placed third in the weight throw with a mark of 14.45 meters.

Northland College senior Ryan Rawlings earned Men’s Basketball Player of the Week averaging 22 points and six rebounds a game as the Lumberjacks went 2-0 in UMAC play. During the week he scored a career-high 26 points in their 77-69 win over Bethany Lutheran College.
