On Monday the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) athletic department launched their sixth Week of Giving.

"This is an annual event that our student athletes host and put on," UWS athletic director Nick Bursik said. "The cool thing about this week is it’s entirely student lead and then they’re the ones getting involved, donating their time, and serving our local community."

Student-athletes and athletic staff members hit the ground running Monday afternoon hosting a Salvation Army gift wrap, which Bursik said will benefit 17 local families. That’s one of five daily events.

Caroling for Cans returns Thursday, and new this year is a winter clothing drive. At all home games between Dec. 3 and Dec. 11, fans attending games can donate new winter jackets, hats, gloves and other clothing that will be distributed locally to people in need. This pairs with their Toys for Tots drive where new, unopened toys can be dropped off at home games to be given to the Superior Fire Department and distributed to youth in the area.

Bursik said this is all to help Yellowjackets give back and connect with their community.
