Update: Vehicles crash on Bong, Blatnik bridges amid whiteout conditions

Crashes closed portions of both the Bong Bridge and the Blatnik Bridge between the Twin Ports on Monday afternoon amid whiteout conditions.

First, the Superior-bound lanes of the Bong Bridge (U.S. Highway 2) were closed due to a crash at about 4:45 p.m. The Superior Police Department said there is very limited visibility with whiteout conditions.

A short time later, the Duluth-bound lanes of the Blatnik Bridge (U.S. Highway 53) were closed due to a crash at the Garfield Avenue exit, which is the only exit on the Duluth side due to road construction. The Superior Police Department says it was advised by the Minnesota State Patrol that seven vehicles were involved.

It appears traffic is flowing again on both bridges.
