Update: Cook teen charged with attempted murder

On Tuesday, a 16-year-old from Cook was charged with the attempted murder of her mother.

This stems from a shooting from Sunday evening in Morcom Township, which is west of Cook.

The juvenile petition said the motive was the teen wanted her methamphetamine back. The mother had allegedly taken it away from her daughter.

Authorities received a call about a woman who was being taken to the Cook Hospital with a possible gunshot wound. They were told that the alleged suspect was a female juvenile family member, who was last seen at the residence where the incident occured.

Deputies located a vehicle matching the description the suspect had access to, stuck in a ditch, about two miles north of the address where the shooting was reported. They also found another vehicle with three occupants inside, near the suspect vehicle. Deputies identified one of them as the shooting suspect.

The sheriff’s office says the other two women in the vehicle had pulled over to help the woman in the ditch and were not involved in the shooting.

The suspect was taken to St. Louis County Courthouse in Hibbing for additional processing, and was expected to be in court on Tuesday. According to the petition, she admitted to authorities to shooting her mother.

The 40-year-old victim was transported to a Duluth hospital for additional medical treatment and is believed to be in a condition that is stable.

WDIO will not be naming the suspect unless she’s moved to adult court.
