On Tuesday the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s and women’s hockey players Ben Patt and Gabbie Hughes were named 2022 Hockey Humanitarian Award nominees.

They are two of 11 total nominees for the 27th annual award which is presented to "college hockey’s finest citizen; a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism."

Hughes, a senior forward, was nominated for her involvement with Sophie’s Squad, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the mental health of athletes.

Fifth year goalie Patt earned a nod for his Movember fundraiser in support of men’s health.
