On Wednesday University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey goaltender Emma Soderberg was officially named to Team Sweden for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

This will mark her first Olympic games, and comes two months after the senior helped Sweden qualify for the Olympics.

Soderberg will be joined on Team Sweden by former Bulldog forward Michelle Lowenhielm, named to her second Olympic team, and UMD defenseman Linnea Hedin who will become an Olympian for the first time.

A Jarved, Sweden native Soderberg, in 20 games, owns the second most wins so far this season with 13 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), the second most shutouts with four, and has posted the second-best saves percentage in 13 or more games (.920).

She’s one of three actively rostered UMD women’s skaters with an Olympic team, joining Ashton Bell (Canada) and Kassy Betinol, who is centralized in China. There are now ten total female athletes with Bulldog hockey ties in the 2022 games, including former goalie Maddie Rooney with Team USA.
