The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team was taking on MSU-Mankato in game three of the quarterfinals.

The Bulldogs would jump out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Anna Klien, and Taylor Anderson.

Mankato would score two of their own to force overtime.

In the extra frame however it was Elizabeth Giguere who would score the game winning goal, as UMD moves on to the Frozen Faceoff tournament.

"I am really happy with our group it was a great series, I though Mankato gave us everything they had, pushed us to the brink and we stuck with it. Teams that are trying to extend their seasons are really tough to beat they have a lot of talent and got good goaltending this weekend. Good things happen when the pucks on Gigueres stick in OT like that, so credit to her to make that play and credit to everyone for sticking with it and getting through a tough weekend. Now we move on to Minneapolis next weekend," said head coach Maura Crowell.

The team will be back in action for the WCHA Final Faceoff semifinal game, March 5th against No. 1 Minnesota.
