UMD volleyball ranked 7th nationally in AVCA preseason poll

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) volleyball team will enter the 2021-2022 season as one of the nation’s top dogs.

The Bulldogs come in at number seven in the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s (AVCA) Division II preseason poll.

They are the second of five Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) teams to crack the Top 25 poll. They earned 684 points to earn the spot.

Concordia University, St. Paul (CSP) beat out UMD coming in at number two. Northern State University (15th), St. Cloud State University (16th), and Wayne State University (24th) are the other NSIC schools in the AVCA ranking.

The Central Region, which UMD must finish in the top eight to earn an NCAA tournament berth, has nine in the Top 25.

Coming off a pandemic canceled season, the Bulldogs will serve up their season on September 2nd at Michigan Technological University.
