Travel could be difficult in NW Wisconsin, Twin Cities

A winter storm will affect parts of the Northland Friday evening into early Saturday morning.

A widespread swath of 6" or more of snow will extend from southeast Minnesota moving northeastward into the U.P. Accumulating snow will be possible in northwest Wisconsin with increasing chances moving south. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Sawyer, Price, and Iron counties from 12 pm Friday until 9 am Saturday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the same time period Burnett, Washburn, Bayfield, and Ashland counties.

Expect travel to deteriorate from south to north for these communities through the evening. Snow will be heavy at times with poor visibility and snow quickly accumulating. Conditions improve as snow moves east Saturday morning.

Light snow accumulations of less than an inch may extend across Head of Lake Superior with slick spots possible. Accumulation will then increase moving southeast of the Twin Ports. A line from Hayward to Ironwood is the northern extent of potential for 3” or more. South Price County has the greatest chance of 6” or more.
