Three Duluth small businesses lose storefronts due to future demolition

Three small businesses in downtown Duluth are about to lose their homes this winter.

Chinese dragon, Old Town Antiques, and Hucklebeary all share the same building together on Superior Street, but the problem is the building is scheduled to be demolished.

The owner of Hucklebeary, the owner of Old Town Antiques, and the daughter of the owners from Chinese Dragon gathered together on Instagram Live to deliver the sad news to customers.

Emily Ekstrom, owner of Hucklebeary says, “We were notified within this last week that our building will be demolished and our leases will be terminated."

Each store will be leaving at separate times. Chinese Dragon will be done on December 31st, Old town antiques the middle of January, and huckleberry’s last day will be Valentine’s Day.

The three neighbors have been in the building for a long time and have been happy to have been side-by-side for so long.

Ekstrom says, “And I was granted the perfect little spot between Old Town and The Chinese Dragon, I have known that my time here was going to be limited but it’s hard to hear the news that the building will be coming down."

And while two businesses are relocating it was announce one was not. Melissa Tang from Chinese Dragon says, "My parents are planning on not relocating and have to retire from the restaurant business."

So now as these businesses spend their last winter together in the building, the support from customers means so much more.
