Dozens of new jobs will likely be added soon in Duluth’s aviation sector.

Tonight, the Duluth City Council joined the St. Louis County Board in approving tax credits for Cirrus to expand into the maintenance facility occupied by AAR until 2020.

Duluth councilors signed off on giving the Duluth-based company $600,000 in tax abatement. The resolution says the expansion will create at least 80 new jobs.

The abatement period will last 10 years. Cirrus plans to make significant investments into the former AAR building, expecting the total project cost to be about $7 million.

The St. Louis County Board also approved $600,000 in tax credits, and Cirrus plans to ask for help from the state as well.
