Scoring four goals in the first period the Superior boys hockey team went on to shut out Menomonie 7-0 Tuesday night at the Superior Ice Arena notching a season opening win.

Robert Powell scored first for the Spartans who had six different goal scorers with Andrew Rude tallying two.

This marked their first game back after closing out the 2020-2021 season as Division 2 state tournament runners up. From that squad 22 seniors returned to Jason Kalin’s roster for his 21 season as head coach.

"We’ve all been playing together since we were little kids so it’s safe to say we have a pretty good bond," senior forward Kell Piggott said. "Practice has been high paced, high intensity, we came up just short last year and we want to finish it off this year."

Now 1-0 Superior is back in action Friday opening road play at Notre Dame.
