If it wasn’t for winter weather postponements Tuesday night would have marked round three of the Superior boys hockey team’s Division 1 Sectional 1 playoff run.

Now they’ll have to wait for Wednesday to continue what’s been an upset riddled tournament. The seventh seeded Spartans had knocked off number two Eau Claire Memorial 3-1 to advance past the quarterfinals.

"Gives us a lot of confidence," senior defenseman George Hansen said. "We’re rolling on all cylinders right now and getting that win definitely helped us."

In order to punch their title to the title game Superior will next need to take down sixth seeded Chippewa Falls, who upset number three Eau Claire North 3-2 in round two.

"We know that we’re going into a tough contest against Chippewa Falls, a team we lost to twice this season by one goal each game," head coach Jason Kalin explained. "I think if you can ask for anything in playoff time you’d want your boys peaking at the right time, and I think based on how we performed on Thursday last week we’re getting there."

Puck drop between the Spartans and Cardinals Wednesday is set for 7pm at Chippewa Ice Arena.
