For decades golfers have been hitting the fairways at the Cloquet Country Club (CCC) vying for the title of Cloquet Invitational champion.

This year they celebrated 90 years of competition.

"The 90th year is special, obviously every decade, ten years from your 100th. The course itself turns 100 in two years, and to just realize you’re probably one of the longest running golf tournaments in the area is special alone," said Bill Manahan, executive director of CCC.

Hermantown’s Taylor Sundbom would take down defending champion Alex Kolquist to earn the 2021 Cloquet Invitational title, and his fourth overall.

Sundbom shot a 72 in the final round to finish at 210 overall.

He beat out recent Cloquet High School graduate Sam Baker by two strokes.

Manahan said it’s encouraging to see young athletes become fierce competitors in this long held tradition.

"Community wise it’s very special. Sam’s just off the state high school individual champion and team champion. He’s kind of carrying it forward and rolling into this one and playing well."

Baker finished the three day event with a total of 212. For full results from the champion flight, click here.
