As of Friday Grand Rapids baseball is under 24 hours away from learning their 2022 state tournament pairing. Falling in the championship game last season, the Thunderhawks will return six of their nine starters in time for their Class AAA revenge tour.

"It will be good for the young guys to be able to talk to the veterans that were there last year and see what that was like and what they’re going to go up against," head coach Bill Kinnunen said.

Junior Myles Gunderson added, "I know we kind of came into last year, we played at Target Field thinking ‘oh man we get to play here’ and we didn’t actually worry about the game of baseball and the sport. I think now this year, with still having six guys returning, we can also change the mindset of those three others that are playing."

Grand Rapids takes a four game hot streak into the big stage. In each of those four games they put up nine or more runs allowing no more than three.

State action begins June 14th with the championship games set for June 17th at Target Field. Brackets will be released Saturday at 9am.
