Following the Section 7A cross country meet Thursday, the Section 7AA boy’s and girl’s races took off at the Cloquet Country Club.

First up was the girl’s 5k. Rock Ridge eighth grader Lexi Lamppa earned a commanding victory with a time of 19:10. She beat Duluth Denfeld’s Grace McCormick (19:57) coming in second, and her own twin sister Maija Lamppa racing to third place (20:01).

"The first mile I felt really good and then it just felt good," Lamppa said post-race. "I never got super tired, I didn’t have any side aches, it just felt good."

Next up was the boy’s event. Rock Ridge would showed up in full force once again, as junior Cameron Stocke finished at 16:13 followed by fellow Wolverine Aaron Nelson coming in at 16:41. Cloquet’s Miles Fischer finished third at 16:49.

"It was definitely nice. This year is a little bit different because of the three class system, so the section was quite a bit smaller but it still feels amazing," Stocke said after his win.

The top two teams and six individuals from the section meet advance to state. The Rock Ridge and Cloquet boys, and Hibbing and Cook County girls earned the team spots.
