Both the Proctor and Moose Lake/Willow River softball teams would finish as state runners-up on Friday at Caswell Park in North Mankato.

Top-seeded Proctor fell in a close Class AA championship game to third seeded Chatfield 3-2. Finishing the season 24-2 the Rails would be welcomed home by a big community showing at St. Luke’s Sports & Event Center late Friday night.

"Obviously it’s a far drive down to Mankato so a lot of our fans couldn’t make it, but coming home this is very special for us to see our community supporting us," senior Preslie Annala said.

Fellow senior Baylie Peterson added, "personally it was a really incredible feeling and I knew we’d make it if we just put our hearts into the game and played how we knew how to play. "It’s something I’ll never forget."

"Just thinking about being in a state championship is unbelievable," senior Payton Rodberg added. ‘We made history, either second or first we still made history."

In Class A it took extras as second seeded Moose Lake/Willow River fell 3-2 to number one Nicollet in the eighth inning. Rebels finish the season 26-5.
