Proctor man delivers Thanksgiving meal to Duluth firefighters

While many are getting ready to gather with friends and family this Thanksgiving, there are some people who don’t get to participate because of their jobs. Police officers and firefighters are some of those people, but Teddy Avey from Proctor is on a mission to make sure everyone has a good meal.

"I drive truck, and I know how it feels to be away from home. Can’t go to birthday parties or holidays, so I know how it feels. And you’re stuck working, that’s just the way it goes," shared Avey at the Downtown Headquarters for the Duluth Fire Department.

Leading up to Thanksgiving, Avey purchased and delivered a full meal of fixings to all eight of Duluth’s fire stations, feeding at least 36 firefighters who are working this weekend.

"It’s nice to feel appreciated and to be recognized by community members like Teddy," shared Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj. "Whether it’s Thanksgiving, or they celebrate something else throughout the holiday season with their families, our people are gone. They’re here supporting the community. And to have that trust and support from people like Teddy, it’s important and it means a lot to us."

In previous years, Avey has delivered meals to the Proctor Police and Fire Departments, as well as Duluth Police and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s office.

"We really appreciate everything you’ve done for us, Teddy. It was really a kind gesture. And I know I’ve talked to some of our firefighters and they really appreciate it," said Chief Krizaj.
