Police warn drivers to slow down after four crashes at Sistonen’s Corners

After four crashes in two months, and with winter weather approaching, Ontario Provincial Police are reminding drivers to slow down at Sistonen’s Corners west of Thunder Bay.

The intersection is where Highway 11-17 (the Trans-Canada Highway) and Highway 102 (Dawson Road) meet north of Kakabeka Falls and west of Kaministiqua.

The latest crash happened on Wednesday afternoon. The OPP says a vehicle lost control on the off ramp from Highway 102, crossing Highway 11-17 and going over a steel barrier before going into the ditch.

The driver, who was the lone occupant, was not injured but faces a traffic charge.

"The OPP are reminding drivers that with the colder weather approaching, drivers need to adjust their driving habits to suit the environment. This may include slowing down, adjusting distance between vehicles, or choosing not to travel at all," a news release about the crash read.
