Pedestrian struck, killed after dog hit

The Pine County Sheriff’s Office says a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle moments after his dog was hit by a car.

The incident happened on the evening of Thursday, March 4, on Pokegama Lake Road near Grasston.

The sheriff’s office says the man was struck by a second vehicle as he tried to remove the dog from the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle who hit the man stopped to help. Bystanders attempted CPR and arriving sheriff’s deputies continued lifesaving measures, but the man was later pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office said the driver is cooperating with law enforcement and that alcohol and controlled substances to not appear to have been a factor.

The Minnesota Stata Patrol is also assisting in the investigation.
