Ontario announces $2.7 million for Fort Frances projects

Four infrastructure projects in Fort Frances will receive a combined $2.7 million from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.

The funding was announced Monday by the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry.

The largest amount of funding, $1,732,500, will be used to renovate and expand the Memorial Sports Centre. Other funding includes $466,125 to build an extension to the Fort Frances Senior Centre, $376,995 to renovate and upgrade the Sorting Gap Marina docks, and $148,500 to renovate and upgrade the Fort Frances Municipal Airport.

"These funds will help us in better meeting the needs of our community in maintenance, accessibility, space management, and all aspects of public safety," said Travis Rob, Fort Frances Manager of Operations and Facilities, in a news release distributed by the Ontario government.

The funding is intended to boost economic growth, improve quality of life and build a strong, healthy community, according to the news release.
