One man dead, another injured in single-vehicle crash in Carlton

One man has died and another was critically injured after a vehicle crash early Monday morning in Carlton.

At 12:18 a.m. the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motor vehicle crash with a vehicle leaving the road in the 200 block of Thompson Road in Carlton.

According to authorities, a man was driving southbound in a truck when it left the road and struck a tree. The passenger was ejected from the truck and killed. He’s been identified as Cuong Hang, 38, of Gretna, Louisiana.

The driver was critically injured and was transported to Essentia Hospital in Duluth by the Cloquet Area Fire District EMS. He’s been identified as Hung Hang, 39, of Gretna, Louisiana.

One occupant was not wearing their seatbelt at the time of the crash. It’s unknown if the other person was belted at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office also received assistance from the Carlton Fire Department, Cloquet Area Fire District, Esko Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Fond Du Lac Police Department and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
